A new student:
I stared in amazement at the huge hall. “What a school!” I thought in awe to myself. Listening attentively to the headmaster, he asked us to stand up and recite the four pillars. Immediately, I broke out in cold sweat. I looked around in anxiety and my father told me to stand up. Standing up, all the students said in unison, “Friendship, Honour, Discipline, Excellence” Not knowing what to say, I glanced around and quickly took a seat. Luckily, no one noticed me. As the ceremony proceeded, I realized that I would have to learn much more about my new school…
A parent:
I stared at the headmaster with boredom. He had been droning on for the past hour and I noticed that my child was also starting to get bored. Out of the blue, he asked the students to recite the four pillars. I saw a boy who was new stood up in confusion. Nearly breaking out in laughter, I suppressed my laughter. I scrutinized the hall. It was quite big. Looking around, I saw interesting things such as patterns and other items. After several minutes, the headmaster finally came to a stop. “What a relief!” I muttered to myself as everyone stood up and proceeded out of the hall.

Term 1 Week 7 : Weekend Assignment
It has been 7 weeks since school has started. Language Arts this year is certainly harder than last year. Nevertheless, I feel that this year's Language Arts program is more interesting than last year. It is more organised that the last year's program. For example, last year, we had to learn about poetry, short story and comprehension skills simultaneously.
My Language Arts teacher this year is Mr Bryan Lum Wai Kit. I feel that he is an excellent and kind teacher. He teaches the subject really well. He really knows how to deliver the lesson well to us. A lesson which particularly like is a lesson on characterisation, where he showed us slides about Disney characters. Our class was filled with laughter and happiness as some of us make funny observations. Other lessons, too, are interesting as Mr Lum is humorous. He would often crack jokes that would make the class burst into laughter. This would really brighten the lesson as some of us may feel that the lesson is quite boring.
I feel that we should be more involved in the use of computers. As our society nowadays are evolving quickly, I feel that we should be trained in using the computer. This would help us in our future as I feel that in the future we would have to use a lot of technology-based things to do our work.
In conclusion, I feel that this year's Language Arts program is a great improvement from last year and I hope that we would continue with these interesting lessons in the next few terms.

Week 5 Assignment : Description of My favourite place
This is the Hwa Chong Instituion Swimming Complex. White fluffy clouds scattered in the azure blue sky. The pool was as silent as the night. It was mid-morning where all the students were busy studying in their classrooms. The leaves bristle under the cooling breeze. The trees towered over the pool like basketball players over others. Soon, students were dismissed and the water polo players arrived. The atmosphere completely changed. Loud cacophony of noises could be heard from every direction. Countless cars whizzed by like a swarm of bees. Student were chatting and eating at the poolside. As the water polo players changed, they all jumped into the pool like cannonballs. The water swept into the drainage system in fear. The water erupted from the pool like a volcano as the players swam swiftly. Nearby, the students from NPCC marched past the pool. Shouting commands, they marched into war. After many hours, the training ended. As the water polo players left the water, the pool slowly crept back into a calm state. Students hastily streamed out of the school like a river, rushing to reach home. At the end of the day, the pool yet again returns to its serenade state...

Characterisation: Story excerpt

The crowd suddenly went wild. David Beckham strolled onto the field, chest up high. He gallantly looked around and waved at his fans. Girls were screaming and shouting at the sight of him. The football star was a legend. Many fans were asking him to sign their belongings. As he strolled into the soccer field, the crowd roared and gave a thunderous applause. Soon, the soccer match started. It was the finals of the world cup and England had to face off against Germany.
Minutes into the game, Germany scored a goal. The England players’ spirits were dampened. As the match progressed, Beckham’s teammates had many opportunities to score but Beckham simply ignored them and charged forward with the ball. In his heart, he wanted to give the audience a spectacular match. He wanted to be the star of the game. Although David Beckham missed several times, the fans were still cheering him on. This further propelled his arrogance. “Hey! Here!” Steven Gerrad called out to him. Beckham chuckled at him and took a shot. Soon enough, the match progressed into the last few minutes. He was starting to get worried as England was losing by a goal. England attacked fiercely but to no avail. The German’s defense was too strong. Beckham knew that he should have seized the chance when his teammates could score.
Beep! The final whistle went off. The cheering started to die down. England had lost. As David Beckham looked at his teammates, he could see their disappointment. Frustrated, he walked off the pitch towards the locker room…
